Leicester City have been left powerless in their wish to register Adrien Silva before January, unless the player lodges a personal appeal.

The 2015-16 Premier League champions agreed a deal with Sporting CP worth up to €29.5million to sign the Portugal international as a replacement for Danny Drinkwater, who joined Chelsea shortly before the close of the transfer window.

Leicester reportedly missed the deadline to register Silva by a matter of seconds, meaning FIFA refused permission for the move to be completed.

After an appeal against that ruling was turned down, Leicester planned to take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but FIFA s decision not to support an expedited process has left the club s hands tied.

The 2011-12 A-League campaign has seen a new record aggregate season attendance along with the best game average crowds.

Following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, Football Federation Australia (FFA) released a statement looking at the positive figures for the A-League, which was buoyed by the return of Socceroos duo Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton for the season.

A total number of 1,416,157 fans went through A-League turnstiles in the 2011-12 campaign, bettering the previous mark of 1,393,933 set in 2010-11. There were 30 fewer matches this season compared to the previous term.

Major attendance increases in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle and Wellington also contributed to the average crowd figure rising to 10,490.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Gunners defender Gabriel Magalhaes for his character after he fought off a baseball bat-wielding robber at his home.

The 23-year-old centre-back was followed home by two robbers who attempted to steal his car, watch and phone back in August. He tussled with one assailant, who amid the scuffle dropped his hat, from which DNA evidence led to a conviction last month.
